Instruction is provided by certified tutors in the Orton Gillingham approach or by trainees under the supervision of an Instructor of Certified Academic Language Practitioners (ICALP).
The Dyslexia Reading Center offers free training for individuals interested in receiving initial certification as tutors in the Orton-Gillingham approach. Graduates of this training are eligible to take the National Alliance Test to become Certified Academic Language Practioners (CALP). (Academic Language Therapy Association www.altaread.org)
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree is a prerequisite for this training. Requirements for certification include a minimum of 60 hours of classroom instruction and 100 or more hours of practicum work under the supervision of qualified professionals, tutoring two children twice a week at our Center. Training for advanced certification is also available.
School Districts interested in Orton-Gillingham training for teachers in their home schools can be arranged through contractual agreement with the Center.
